    After graduating from RADA, Hawkins honed her craft on stage with performances in Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She also appeared in The Cherry Orchard and The House of Bernarda Alba.

    Her early screen work included roles in Casualty (1999), Doctors (2000), and BBC Radio 4 series such as Concrete Cow and Ed Reardon’s Week. She gained wider recognition with appearances in the hit BBC comedy Little Britain between 2003 and 2005.

    Hawkins’s first major film role came with Mike Leigh’s All or Nothing (2002), followed by a supporting role in Vera Drake (2004). She then starred in the BAFTA-nominated BBC drama Fingersmith (2005), showcasing her ability to lead a period drama. That same year, she appeared in Layer Cake and Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky.
